how to sew a gathered dress with french sleeves (pattern & tutorial)

This is a dress I made myself.

[What You Need]

You will need 3 yards of fabric.

+ fusible interfacing

1. Cut out your fabric.

seam allowance : 1cm

Hem : 3cm

front 1, back 1, skirt 2, ribbon belt 2, 

45 degree bias tape(3cm wide)

Match the plaid before cutting the fabric.

2. Make your own bias binding tape(3cm wide).

45 degree!

This tape is for neckline and armholes.

3. Make 2 ribbon belts.

(1) Place the pieces of fusible interfacing 

on the wrong side of your fabric.

(2) Iron it down in place.

*Make sure the glue facing. 

It has little bumps of glue on one side 

and is smooth on the other side.

 (3) Press with the heated iron for 10 seconds.

(4) Pin the pieces right sides together.

(5) Stitch side seam of the belts.

(6) Trim the seam allowances to 0.5cm with scissor.

(7) Cut corners diagonally, and turn right side out.

(8) Top stitch 3~4mm from the edge.

3. Stitch shoulder seams.

Finish seams with a overlock machine(serger).

4. Turn right side out.

5. Pin binding tape around the neckline and armholes.

Never pull the tape too tight.

6. Sew a 1cm seam allowance.

7. Trim the seam allowances to 0.5cm with scissor.

8. Cut notches into the seam allowances
so when flipped under it is nice and flat.

9. Press the binding to the inside.
Fold the binding to the inside again.
Top stitch 7mm from the edges.

10. Gather the upper edge of the skirt.

How to make ruffles :
Adjust the stitch length to the maximum.
Leave 15cm to 20cm thread tails at the beginning and end.
Do not lock your stitch at either end.
Sew the seam allowance with two parallel lines 
of long stitches and then pulling up the threads.

11. Stitch the top to your skirt(front and back).
Lay the back piece on the front, right sides facing.

12. Put the edges of belts between the front and back.
And pin the side edges together.

13. Stitch the side seam .

14. Make a double-fold hem and top stitch in place.
