I learned this technique on www.needlenthread.com

First of all, draw two parallel lines.

Bring the needle out on the left side.

Wrap the thread once on the needle.

Take the needle to the right and insert the needle.

Let the tip of the needle come out on the left side.

Pass the thread underneath the needle.

Pull the thread.

This is the first braid stitch.

Keep tension of thread constant.

Wrap the thread on the needle again.

Pierce the fabric from right to left.

and then pass the thread under the needle.

Continue with the procedure.

You can vary the length and spacing.

DMC pearl cotton thread in the braid stitch.
